The mission of the Davis Direction Foundation is to serve as a role model in our community in order to become a national resource for Opiate/Heroin Addiction Awareness Opioid/Heroin Addiction Awareness and Change.
We will strive to remove the outdated stigma of opiate addicts and innovatively revamp the rehabilitation process to appropriately address the disease of Opioid/Heroin Addiction as one of the most severe forms of addiction. We will provide direct assistance and services to individuals, family members, or others at risk of experiencing an opioid related overdose. We will provide a safe place for all people to seek, maintain, support and enjoy long-term recovery free from substance use disorder.
We believe that collectively we can make a difference. We Believe that the optimal answer to opioid/heroin addiction is prevention. We believe that heroin causes one of the most severe forms of addiction. We believe that we must make heroin a public conversation in order to make a difference. We believe that the stigma of a heroin addict and rehabilitation for them is outdated and needs to be changed. We believe that legislative changes need to be made regarding Opioid/Heroin addiction. We believe that addiction of all kinds is a disease.
AMA Foundation Awards Community Organization with Healthy Living Grant
(CHICAGO) – Davis Direction, a fund of the Cobb Community Foundation, in Cobb County, Ga., was recently awarded with an American Medical Association (AMA) Foundation Healthy Living Grant. The community organization will use the grant to educate youth about prescription medication safety.
Davis Direction will use their Healthy Living Grant to implement the Opioid/Heroin Awareness and Overdose Prevention program. The program was designed in response to rising rates and changing demographics of opioid abuse, especially of prescription opioids, in the areas surrounding Cobb County, Ga. An increasing number of young users are using prescription opioid, with the highest percentage between the ages of 18-21 years old.
The program will promote awareness of information about rehabilitation and recovery to people struggling with opioid addiction and their families. Participants will be equipped with Naloxone kits along with instruction about how to use them.
Davis Direction a fund of the Cobb Community Foundation, was one of 17 community organizations nationwide that were awarded an AMA Foundation grant in 2014. These grants will support prescription medication safety projects for undeserved and/or at-risk youth/young adults between the ages of 2-21. The projects were designed by each individual organization to reflect to needs of their local community.
The AMA Foundation Healthy Living Grant program has awarded more than $1.1 Million in grants to 348 health education programs since 2002.
In 2012, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention noted that prescription drug misuse is the fastest growing drug problem in the United States. This is the fourth year that the AMA Foundation has awarded grants to support prescription medication safety through its Healthy Living Grant Program.
